Information for Associations

Technical support, web hosting, and consulting

Over time, HigherEd.org staff have developed an initial web presence and provided hosting and technical support for various national, regional, and state association sites. These include:

  • ERIC (Education Resources Information Clearinghouse) for Higher Education
  • Society for College and University Planning (SCUP)
  • Association for Institutional Research (AIR)
  • Southern Association for Institutional Research
  • Virginia Association for Management and Planning
  • Association for the Study of Higher Education
  • Institute for Building Biology and Ecology
  • Lotus Garden Buddhist Retreat Center

HigherEd.org has also provided data consulting services to:

  • Association of Governing Boards
  • Association of American Universities

HigherEd.org provided technical support and web hosting for the Education Resources Information Clearinghouse (ERIC) until the ERIC system was dismantled by the Department of Education in 2004, Dr. John Milam, project director for HigherEd.org, served for five years on the Advisory Board and many of the pages he maintained with Internet Resources for Institutional Research were linked on the ERIC site.

For the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP), HigherEd.org conducted a comprehensive technology review with a site visit to the Michigan office, a complex comparison of site features across associations, and prototype/mockups of a series of recommended site redesign proposals.

HigherEd.org staff have developed and maintained the Association for Institutional Research (AIR) web site from its inception through 2002, including the creation of various data-driven web applications for online registration, bibliographic search, membership directory, and other features.

Creation of new software tools

HigherEd.org is able to help associations create new software tools to serve its members, primarily focusing on institutional and state comparisons of postsecondary data. It is able to facilitate complex data collections, as evidenced by the Lumina Foundation Study of Noncredit Course Activity and the Common Data Set Exchange. A series of online surveys are being developed now for the State of Virginia and for the Lumina Study of Cost of Instruction for Nontraditional Students. Various attention management, executive information system, and other KM (knowledge management) toolsets may be developed to meet a wide array of association needs.

Analysis, writing, and presentation

The track record of HigherEd.org with national meetings such as the IPEDS Student Unit Record Feasibility Study and the IPEDS Derived Variables project documents the company's ability to lead complex discussions about key postsecondary data issues. An extensive report of the unit record project was published by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) and is available as a model for the types of analysis, writing, and graphics which HigherEd.org can put together for associations on various topics.
